Leon County Bicentennial lecture series explores founding of city, county

In celebration of the Tallahassee-Leon County Bicentennial, Leon County Government invites the community to the next installment of the award-winning Library Lecture Series, Bicentennial Beginnings: The Founding of Tallahassee and Leon County, from 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 7, at the downtown Leroy Collins Leon County Main Library, 200 West Park Ave.

During the program, speaker Doug Alderson will take the audience back to 1824, when the county and city were established, to learn about the fascinating events that led to the creation of Florida’s capital county and gain a deeper understanding of the roots that shaped our community into the vibrant place it is today.

Doug Alderson is an author and the chair of the Tallahassee-Leon County Bicentennial History Task Force. He has published 17 books which primarily focus on the dynamic and sometimes quirky nature of his home state of Florida, and he often melds both history and natural history in his writing.

He also contributes content to the Tallahassee-Leon County Bicentennial website, TallahasseeLeonCounty200.com, where citizens and visitors can discover the history of Tallahassee-Leon County, learn about engaging local events, and so much more.
