Election 2024: Abortion, inflation, integrity shape 2nd Congressional District race

Abortion, jobs and inflation are the top campaign issues for the Democratic challenger and the Republican incumbent in the race for Florida’s 2 nd congressional district.

The 15-county district attaches the Big Bend to the eastern panhandle, crosses two time zones, and has 49% of its residents living in rural farming, fishing, and logging communities.

Anchored by Tallahassee and Panama City the 2nd is the least urbanized district in the state.

Poverty rates are more than double the state average in nine of its counties and the median household income is below the state average in all but one.

The Cook Political Report rates the 2nd Congressional District as a solid Republican seat. The GOP enjoys an 11% voter registration advantage over Democrats, with 19% of voters registered with neither party.

Congressman Neal Dunn, R-Panama City, is seeking a fifth term.

The Trump-endorsed urologist is ”100% pro-life” and opposes Amendment 4, which would prohibit restrictions on abortions before viability. Dunn wants to cut regulations to create jobs, and he blames “reckless overspending by Biden and Democrats” for inflation.
