Donna Adelson in court again for motion hearing ahead of her trial in Dan Markel murder

Donna Adelson , who is set to go on trial later this month for the murder of law professor Dan Markel, appeared in court Friday for a pre-trial motion hearing.

Leon Circuit Judge Stephen Everett heard arguments on a defense motion to preclude a key state witness, Tallahassee Police Department Sgt. Chris Corbitt, from being certified as an expert witness, which would allow him to offer opinions on the evidence.

The defense, in a motion filed late last month, also asked that a 329-page PowerPoint presentation on communications between defendants that the state plans to present with Corbitt on the stand be kept out of the jury room during their eventual deliberations.

Later in the morning, Everett presided over a closed-door hearing in chambers that may have involved a sealed motion filed Thursday by the defense. The motion pertains to Rob Adelson, one of the defendant’s three children and a witness for the prosecution.

A doctor who is reportedly estranged from his family, Rob Adelson was on the list to testify in his brother’s trial last year but never took the stand. No other information about the motion or the hearing was immediately available.
