Angela Suggs assumes FAMU’s athletic director role aiming to ‘serve’ and ‘listen’

Angela Suggs is back where it all started.

Appointed as Florida A&M’s new Vice President and Director of Athletics last Friday, Suggs returns to a place she’s known all her life.

Suggs was born at FAMU’s on-campus hospital , which closed in 1971 and is now the Foote-Hilyer Administration Building.

Additionally, Suggs graduated from FAMU High School, now named FAMU Developmental Research School, and earned her bachelor’s degree in economics on The Highest of Seven Hills in 1992.

Professionally, Suggs worked at FAMU from 2009 to 2017 in various roles in the athletic department.

“I’m home, Rattlers,” a teary-eyed Suggs said at her introductory press conference as FAMU’s athletic director on Monday at the Al Lawson Center.

“I grew up on this campus. I love FAMU,” Suggs added.

Suggs comes to FAMU from the Florida Sports Foundation, serving as the Vice President and Chief Executive Officer since 2017.

Before joining the FSF, Suggs got her first job at FAMU to start the 1,000 Strikes fundraising campaign under former athletic director Bill Hayes . From there, she landed full-time roles in FAMU Athletics, such as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs and Senior Woman Administrator.
