FAMU alumna ‘elated to return home’ as new chief marketing and communications officer

Florida A&M University interim President Timothy Beard has announced that FAMU alumna Alonda Thomas is appointed as chief marketing and communications officer – his latest hire in an ongoing leadership restructuring .

Thomas returns to FAMU after serving 10 years ago as director of media relations and interim chief communications officer, and she began her new role Monday. She replaces former Communications Director Keith Miles, who is no longer with the university after Beard gave a directive in August for FAMU’s entire senior leadership team to resign.

“For more than 20 years, Alonda Thomas has exemplified the value of a FAMU degree through her service in both higher education and the entertainment industries nationwide,” Beard said in a prepared statement. “It is an honor to welcome her back to her alma mater as our chief marketing and communications officer.”

“Her extensive expertise in brand management and storytelling will be a valuable asset to our leadership team as we continue to elevate FAMU’s student success and stakeholder engagement,” he added.
