Local Red Cross Volunteer Deploys to Florida Ahead of Tropical Storm Helene

Wheeling, W.Va. (WTRF) Seth Kenefick is a volunteer with the American Red Cross, and he is flying to Tallahassee, Florida today from Pittsburgh International Airport to help prepare for the possible landfall of Tropical Storm Helene.

As the storm barrels toward the coast, it’s a race against the clock to get everything ready.

Kenefick is going down as part of the staff services, which is the human resources side of disaster relief.

He will be coordinating staffing requests and orienting new volunteers, so they know what to do and where to go.

“We’re heading down pre landfall to get everything set up for if that hurricane hits the Gulf Coast Bend area. We’re setting up shelters, getting meals ready, getting the workforce all prepared to help out our clients. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to go and help out the people who are in need of help, really. And I’m very excited that the Red Cross allows me the opportunity to go down there and help them.”
