City of Tallahassee, firefighters union come to tentative agreement on contract

The city of Tallahassee and the Tallahassee Professional Firefighters union have come to a tentative agreement for the firefighters’ three-year contract.

Negotiating teams representing the city and the union have been able to reach agreement on all articles, meaning not only did they agree on compensation but also working standards, rules and more.

Both Joey Davis, union president, and City Manager Reese Goad, confirmed that agreement had been reached and they now move on to the next stages.

This comes following a contentious yearlong back-and-forth for the union’s one-year contract, which ended in a 3-2 vote by a split Tallahassee City Commission, siding with a special magistrate’s opinion to break the impasse.

Goad told the Tallahassee Democrat the agreement was handed over to the fire union, whose members will vote on it, and that process is expected to be complete by Oct. 15.

If passed by the union, the agreement heads to the city commission for the final say. Of course, if voted down by either party, it heads back to the proverbial drawing board.
