Opinion: Moving Tallahassee forward by strengthening our community, together

Since 2014, I have been re-elected twice by this community to serve as your city commissioner, and it has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career in public service. Over the years, I’ve focused on strengthening neighborhoods, improving city services, expanding affordable housing, and addressing violent crime.

One of my key priorities has been advocating for neighborhoods that have been historically overlooked. Investing in these areas goes beyond physical improvements—it’s about empowering residents and creating equitable opportunities throughout the city.

Voters expect us to address the food deserts, develop projects with environmental sustainability in mind, and leverage funds to revitalize neighborhoods. When I became elected many residents spoke about closing the gap in transportation access, and with our new Southside Transit Center under construction we are doing just that.

The community stated that we need more access to housing, and we delivered unprecedented projects like the Orange Avenue Apartments (Columbia Gardens at South City), which provides 390 units, Magnolia Oaks, with 110 units, and more in the plans. These investments reflect our responsiveness and commitment to uplifting the community and providing better inclusivity for all.
