Residents within what’s called the “the Heel” of the Welaunee area say the city cancelled on them 24 hours before a planned meeting to get more information on coming development planned for 900 acres of the property .
A small group of residents, joined by City Commissioner Jack Porter and Leon County Commission candidate Isaac Montilla, were set to meet with city staff to ask questions and have concerns heard about coming development.
A request for comment on why the meeting was cancelled is pending with a city spokesperson.
The cancellation comes just weeks after a back-and-forth saga between the city and residents of the Canopy at Welaunee neighborhood over a proposed Circle K gas station , which was set to be built nearly 50 feet from residents homes instead of a proposed “town center.”
It also comes exactly one week before residents are set to visit the polls for Election Day.
What is coming for ‘the Heel’?
Last June, city commissioners approved 4-1 the creation of a Planned Unit Development agreement for the property.
