Inside the investigation at Griffin Middle School that led to principal’s resignation

Former Griffin Middle School Principal Zelena O’Banner allegedly deposited money from a school fundraiser into her personal checking account, borrowed thousands of dollars from a teacher who said it wasn’t paid back, and had another instructor do “personal favors” for her while still on the clock.

Those were some of the findings included in a Leon County Schools summary report on an investigation into O’Banner, who was placed on leave last December and subsequently resigned Feb. 25 after the district said it intended to fire her. She has denied wrongdoing.

The report from the Office of Labor and Employee Relations, dated Jan. 28, said the district has evidence to support that O’Banner borrowed money from and asked favors of her subordinates…
