A taste of Jamaica in Tallahassee

If you’re looking for an authentic taste of Jamaica in Tallahassee, C&G Caribbean Restaurant on Apalachee Parkway is the place to go. I’ve been a loyal customer for a while, and every time I step through the door, it feels like I’m getting a little slice of the island, even if I’m a thousand miles away.

My go-to meal at C&G is the jerk chicken with rice and peas, cabbage and fried dumplings. The jerk chicken is nothing short of amazing. It’s perfectly marinated and grilled to tender, smoky perfection. The blend of spices is bold but not overpowering, giving each bite a balanced, flavorful kick. The chicken is always juicy, and the char from the grill adds a nice depth of flavor that makes it stand out from other jerk chicken I’ve had. The rice and peas are also a highlight — fluffy, well-seasoned, and the perfect complement to the chicken. I always look forward to the lightly sautéed cabbage with just enough seasoning to bring out its natural sweetness without overpowering its other components.

The real star of the meal for me is the fried dumplings. Crispy on the outside and soft and doughy on the inside, these dumplings are the perfect addition to any plate. They’re just the right amount of fried and are great for soaking up the jerk sauce, rice, or any leftover gravy. I always get an extra order to savor with my meal…
