Romanian national indicted after using skimmers to steal $85K from Tallahassee banks

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Romanian national has been indicted on federal charges after allegedly using skimmers to steal thousands of dollars from Tallahassee banks, according to arrest records.

Daniel Balan, 46, is facing numerous charges, including conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, aggravated identity theft and possessing fifteen or more access devices, per the Northern District of Florida U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Balan was arrested in February after deputies were called to the Capital City Bank on 3815 North Monroe Street about a man who “was seen by bank surveillance covering up the ATM cameras and making several transactions,” according to a probable cause affidavit.

Court documents revealed that while law enforcement investigated the scene, they received another call at the Capital City Bank on 2111 North Monroe Street that said a suspect was “using a skimmer to fraudulently get funds.”…
