Havana FWC meeting to weigh oystering, bear hunt

Two big items of interest to the Forgotten Coast – the reopening of Apalachicola Bay to oyster harvesting and the holding of an annual bear hunt – will be featured at next week’s Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission meeting in Havana.

Franklin County commissioners, as well as local harvesters who have been out of work for the past five years, are urging residents to attend the meeting, with the Apalachicola Bay Oyster Management and Statewide Regulations matter expected to be taken up sometime after 8:30 a.m. ET at the Florida Public Safety Institute Conference Center Building, on 85 Academy Drive.

The agenda notes that “this item may be moved to day one or postponed.”…
