Local fans of Sabrina Carpenter flocked in droves to Retrofit Records on the night of Aug. 23 to celebrate the release of the pop star’s new album, “Man’s Best Friend,” at a listening party hosted by the record store.
A staple of the Tallahassee music scene, Retrofit Records is an independently owned brick-and-mortar record store that is famous for hosting album release or listening parties outside of regular store hours. The building’s eclectic and maximalist decor welcomes customers who are looking to reconnect with physical music.
As “Manchild,” the first track and lead single of “Man’s Best Friend,” played over the speakers of Retrofit Records loud enough to drown out conversation, fans danced, sang along to lyrics and recorded themselves on their phones.
