Phoenix Ikner faces death penalty in FSU shooting case, trial set for March 2026

Phoenix Ikner, the 21-year-old former Florida State University (FSU) student accused of the April 17 mass shooting at FSU, is now set to face trial on March 30, 2026. This is a four-month delay from his original trial date, which was set for November of this year.

The delay in the trial comes after Ikner’s previous legal counsel, Assistant Public Defender Peter Mills, was pulled from the case the week of Aug. 25 due to a conflict of interest. Ikner is now being represented by capital defense attorneys Blake Johnson and Sarah Morris of the Office of Regional Civil and Criminal Conflict Counsel.

The freshly assigned defense team believes they are entitled additional time to review the evidence. Leon Circuit Judge Lance Neff allotted the defense 207 days to do so…
