Tallahassee likely to sell five fire stations, equipment to Leon County below market cost

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – High-ranking leaders at both the City of Tallahassee and Leon County confirm that when the current firefighting contract ends in 2028, the county will have the option of buying fire stations 10 through 15 at a discounted rate.

The deal would also include equipment like fire trucks, but does not appear to include firefighting personnel. The buy option stems from the City Commission’s 3-2 vote to stop providing firefighting services to unincorporated areas come 2028.

Both sides are likely headed to a private court, known as arbitration, to hammer out disputes over the final three years of the deal. A county consultant is expected to bring back an agenda item in December, laying out potential options for unincorporated residents once the current contract ends…
