Georgia-Florida Line Weather: Strong Winds, Heavy Rain Possible Sunday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Much-needed rain will arrive across the Florida Panhandle and southwest Georgia early Sunday morning, but it will come with a line of gusty thunderstorms. The National Weather Service in Tallahassee reports that a few storms could become strong, with damaging winds and an isolated tornado or two possible from Albany, Georgia, southward to Tallahassee.

According to the NWS Tallahassee office, the storms will accompany a fast-moving cold front expected to sweep through between 6 a.m. and noon Sunday, bringing rainfall totals of 0.25 to 0.5 inch for most areas, and up to 1 inch in localized spots near the coast. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather covers southeastern Alabama, the western Florida Panhandle, and the Big Bend region.

Behind the front, skies will clear by Sunday afternoon as cooler, drier air settles in. Temperatures will drop sharply, with many inland areas likely seeing their first 40s of the season Monday and Tuesday mornings…
