Local Seniors Urged to Beware of New AI-Driven Financial Scams

Financial scams targeting older adults are becoming more advanced, according to research from Florida State University’s College of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Many of these scams now use artificial intelligence (AI), increasing risks for seniors. Older adults are considered vulnerable due to factors like cognitive decline, social isolation, and major life changes.

A recent article in Scientific American, co-authored by FSU’s Thomas Blomberg and Julie Brancale, examines how AI-driven scams are deceiving older adults.
