The Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) has introduced a new virtual reality (VR) training system. The goal is to improve officer preparedness and community engagement. The system is funded by the 2024 Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. It uses wireless headsets and hand tracking to place officers in realistic scenarios, such as mental health crises and tactical decision-making exercises.
Chief Lawrence Revell said the investment is part of TPD’s efforts to improve training and build trust with the community.
