Air taxis incoming: A new, innovative way of travel is making its way to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A new way to travel is making its way to Jacksonville. Under the Florida Department of Transportation’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) plan, a battery-powered air taxi will one day connect Jacksonville, Tallahassee, and Daytona Beach.

The SunTrax air taxi, or electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVOTL), is a battery-powered aircraft closely resembling a helicopter. It’s going to be used to transport people, cargo, and aid in emergency management. It plans to hold four to six passengers and will be able to travel between 120 and 200 mph.
