New Internal Medicine Residency Program Coming to Tallahassee’s HCA Florida Capital Hospital in 2026

The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine and HCA Florida Healthcare will start a new Internal Medicine Residency Program at HCA Florida Capital Hospital in Tallahassee. The program will begin in July 2026 with 12 residents and plans to expand to 36 trainees. It has received accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and will join the National Resident Matching Program under code 1587140C6.

Stephen Cico, associate dean for graduate medical education at UCF, said the program will benefit the Tallahassee medical community and the statewide consortium. He noted that internal medicine physicians are important for diagnosing and managing complex diseases and for preventive health care.

The three-year residency will offer training in hospital, outpatient, and subspecialty areas such as critical care, cardiology, endocrinology, and infectious disease.
