Florida launches Campus Guardian Angel drones in Volusia County Schools, 2 other districts

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas announced on Monday that Volusia County Schools and two other districts in the state will participate in the Campus Guardian Angel pilot program which will use drones to enhance safety and security measures, according to a news release.

Officials said the program uses drones to distract active shooters while providing real-time audio and video feeds to guardians and law enforcement during potential threats on school campuses. The program will also be fully integrated with the Alyssa Alert platform – a silent panic alarm required in all public schools.
