END OF THE ROAD: Monroe County harriers challenged in Tallahassee

The cross country course at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee is legendary. Only two decades old, it has already hosted numerous national caliber meets, and in this coming January, it will play host to the World Cross Country Championships. It is not a course for the faint of heart.

And that’s where the Marathon’s boys Cross Country team, and Coral Shores’ Ali Wheatley went to test their mettle against the best high school runners in the state.

Wheatley, a sophomore, raced through the early morning fog, placing 61st in 20:27, a bit off the personal best that she had set at regionals a week ago, but a very respectable showing for her first time on a hilly course…
