TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has filed a lawsuit against Starbucks, claiming the company’s hiring initiatives constitute racial discrimination.
“Starbucks made DEI more than a slogan,” the attorney general said in a video announcing the lawsuit Wednesday. “They turned it into a mandatory hiring and promotion system based on race.”

The lawsuit states that in 2024 multiple Florida residents who worked for or tried to apply for jobs at Starbucks contacted the Attorney General’s Office to report feeling “excluded” due to the company’s employment practices.
