‘We want to answer the call’: Gulf Specimen Marine Lab seeks more space, equipment to treat sick turtles

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The recent closure of a turtle hospital in Panama City means the Panhandle is without a facility that can treat an increasingly common sea turtle disease.

Wakulla County’s Gulf Specimen Marine Lab is now trying to expand to fight a common turtle disease called fibropapillomatosis.

Lead aquarist, Hunter Eichler, is currently overseeing three rehabbing turtles. She said the turtles get tumors all over their body, on their eyes, on their necks, on their fins, and under their body…
