Blue-chip CB explains why he decommitted from FSU

Florida State has gotten off to a good start in its 2027 recruiting class with blue-chip recruits Mehki Williams (safety) and Gregory Batson (linebacker) committed. However, they also lost a huge pledge earlier this month when blue-chip cornerback Bryce Williams left the program.

Prospects decommitting has become an all too common theme for FSU over the last two years due to the poor product they’ve presented on the field. When it comes to Williams, a more specific reason led to him backing off his pledge to the Seminoles, and it was defensive backs coach Pat Surtain Sr. being let go.

“It was really the Pat Surtain situation,” Williams said via Rivals. “Me and Coach Surtain had a really good bond. Him getting released or fired just made me make that decision.”…
