Severe storm alert, fire risk, and cold weather hit North Florida

A fast‑moving weather system could bring isolated severe thunderstorms today, followed by a heightened risk of dangerous fire weather conditions Sunday and a dramatic drop in temperatures early next week across North Florida and South Georgia, according to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee.

Forecasters say the region is under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms this afternoon and evening, mainly along and north of Interstate 10, including Tallahassee and much of the surrounding area. At the same time, officials are monitoring the potential for critical fire weather conditions developing Sunday once a cold front moves through.

“Isolated severe storms are possible today, with damaging wind gusts and a brief tornado the main threats,” the National Weather Service wrote in their morning forecast discussion. “Behind the front, dry air and gusty winds could create dangerous fire weather conditions on Sunday.”…
