Tallahassee, Florida – Red flags are flying along Gulf-facing beaches, and swimmers near US-98 should stay out of the surf through Friday night as a high risk of rip currents continues across the Panhandle coastline.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, life-threatening rip currents are likely at beaches in Walton, Bay, Gulf and Franklin counties. Surf heights of 2 to 4 feet will create strong, narrow channels of water capable of pulling swimmers away from shore, even in waist-deep water. Officials urge residents and visitors to remain out of the Gulf where red flags are posted and to follow local beach patrol guidance…
