Tallahassee man sentenced for escaping while temporarily released from prison, U.S. Attorney’s Office says

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee man is sentenced to two years in federal prison for escaping from custody, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Florida.

46-year-old Derek Somerset was serving a 48-month sentence for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon at the Federal Correctional Institute at Hazelton. On Oct. 15, 2024, Somerset was furloughed and expected to complete his sentence at a residential re-entry facility in Tallahassee, per the press release.
