Tallahassee City Commission to vote on $9 million police pay, benefits deal this week

Tallahassee police officers could soon see significant raises and benefit increases under a proposed $9 million agreement that city commissioners are set to vote on this week.

With the current police contract scheduled to expire in September, the Tallahassee City Commission is expected to consider a new three-year deal at Wednesday’s commission meeting. The proposed agreement between the city and the Big Bend Chapter of the Florida Police Benevolent Association would increase pay and pensions for several ranks within the Tallahassee Police Department.

Under the proposal, the starting salary for Tallahassee police officers would rise to $71,000 a year — about $10,000 higher than the current starting salary, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement records.
