LCSO welcomes new deputies, awards Medal of Valor to reserve deputy in Monday ceremony

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Leon County Sheriff’s Office hosted a swearing-in ceremony and awards presentation on Monday to welcome new deputies and recognize their personnel.

Nearly 100 people from the department were acknowledged in front of their peers and loved ones for their service with a formal pinning and awards ceremony.

One individual was awarded one of the highest honors presented by the Leon County Sheriff’s office, the Medal of Valor. Reserve Deputy James Norris received the honor for his response to a life-threatening vehicle crash while off duty.

“I appreciate the honor, and it’s my pleasure to serve, and I look forward to doing so in the future,” Norris said. “I learned from my family service is a must. It’s an outlet for me to, being a reserved deputy, to give back to the community.”…
