She’s a firefighter, an engineer, a SCUBA diver, a photographer, an unwavering champion for women and girls — and she’s not stopping anytime soon. Andrea Jones, one of Tallahassee’s 25 Women You Need to Know for 2026, may be retired, but we would be lucky to keep up with her.
Originally from the Queens neighborhood of East Elmhurst in New York City, Jones came to Tallahassee about 50 years ago, “back when Killearn was considered out of town,” she laughs.
As she searched for work, a friend suggested the Tallahassee Fire Department. “I read up on it and fell in love before the interview,” she says. “The strategy, tactics, and systems involved were right in line with who I am.”…
