FSU sees more mature and deeper safety group leading to extra flexibility and physicality

We’ve focused on the mixing and matching of the offensive line, but one element that hasn’t been touched on much is how Florida State is also toying with different combinations in the defensive backfield.

For example, DC Tony White said the malleable (and essential) Rover hybrid spot has been manned by more than just Ashlynd Barker. K.J. Kirkland and Ma’Khi Jones have also repped there.

“[Evan Cooper] is trying to challenge those guys, making sure they memorize concepts and not defenses. Plus, all their skill sets, they can all run, they can all hit, they can all cover,” White said. “So, moving those guys around, making sure we’ve got the pieces trained the right way, but that whole safety group, I expect them to be one of the better ones in the entire country. That’s just from what I see out there from the second years, their attitude, their demeanor.”…
