It would be nice for Mike Norvell to figure out the QB situation, if there really is one, by the end of the spring. As much as fans might like the idea of a quarterback competition, they really like the idea of there being a capable starter that gives the Seminoles a chance to win.
No one would be shocked if Norvell just decides to go with Ashton Daniels. Whether you liked the take of Daniels or not, FSU made the investment in the Auburn transfer, and it’s clear that the staff believes there’s a lot of juice left in him. There might be a little more surprise if redshirt freshman Kevin Sperry is the choice, but if reports of a tight QB race are accurate, the possibility can’t be discounted.

If the FSU QB job is even, Kevin Sperry should be the choice
Norvell has been complimentary of both players as expected, and he knows that even the lightest criticism will be over examined. Other players have often mentioned Sperry in a positive light, someone that they consider a good teammate and a natural leader. That probably counts for something.
But if Daniels and Sperry really are even as we roll through the second half of spring practices, Norvell has no choice but to go with the younger, home-grown guy. Sperry offers the FSU program a little more upside because of his youth and his continued development. Daniels obviously has the experience, but he’s also 5-17 as a starter…
