Lightning causes fire at Wesley Chapel apartments

On Thursday at around 3 p.m., Pasco County Fire Rescue responded to a fire at the Cobalt Apartments in Wesley Chapel. It was a three-alarm fire that has left the building unhabitable and in danger of collapse.

By Friday, investigators had concluded that the fire was caused by a lightning strike. The building is considered a total loss and no one was allowed to re-enter, displacing approximately 400 residents across over 90 units that had to be evacuated.
