It’s pretty rare for a Tampa City Councilmember to leave city hall on their own terms, but Luis Viera will do just that on Nov. 2. Last May, after 10 years serving constituents in District 7, the 48-year-old filed a resignation letter riddled with Springsteen Easter eggs. He closed it with a quote from Kris Kristofferson’s “The Pilgrim, Chapter 33”: “…the goin’ up was worth the comin’ down.”
But Viera, who’s been knocking on doors to support his run for state house District 67, is also going to have a hell of a time bringing all of the accouterments down from the tiny office he’s occupied for the last decade.
“In my first election, I got in by 65 votes. I had nothing on my wall, and so after I got reelected, I said, ‘I’m gonna make this place me,’” Viera told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay last June…
