HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Hillsborough County has extended its state of local emergency through Oct. 8 as officials work to stop the spread of dengue fever, a mosquito-borne viral illness.
County Administrator Bonnie Wise signed the executive order on Thursday under the authority of Chapter 252 of Florida Statutes and the county’s local emergency management rules. By law, local emergency declarations last only seven days at a time unless leaders extend or cancel them.
The measure gives county administrators and emergency teams the legal power to act quickly to protect public health and safety. It also opens the door for the county to seek federal reimbursement for related response costs…
