10 Inches of Rain in 24 Hours Floods Coastal Pasco Near New Port Richey and Tarpon Springs as Heavy Rain Shifts Toward Clearwater and Tampa

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Around 10 inches of rain fell in just 24 hours across coastal Pasco County, producing a rainfall event considered roughly a 1-in-30-year occurrence. Totals up to 8 inches were reported in New Port Richey and Tarpon Springs, with about 5 inches in Dunedin and Palm Harbor. Street flooding is ongoing in the hardest-hit coastal communities. The heaviest rain is now shifting toward Clearwater, Largo, Tampa, Wesley Chapel, and Spring Hill.

Coastal Pasco Hit Hardest With 10 Inches

Rainfall estimates show about 10 inches of rain near Holiday and the coastal areas of Pasco County. Offshore, estimates climb even higher, reaching around 11.7 inches over the Gulf waters just west of the coast.

That level of rainfall in a single day is considered a rare event for the area. Statistically, a total like this occurs only about once every 30 years.

New Port Richey and Tarpon Springs See Up to 8 Inches

New Port Richey and Tarpon Springs recorded rainfall totals of up to 8 inches. Radar estimates show around 6.1 inches near New Port Richey and about 4.6 inches near Tarpon Springs, with higher amounts closer to the coast.

Farther north, Hudson picked up around 4.3 inches. Odessa recorded about 3.2 inches as the rain spread inland.

Dunedin and Palm Harbor Pick Up 5 Inches

In northern Pinellas County, Dunedin and Palm Harbor received around 5 inches of rain. Estimates show about 5.1 inches near the coast in this area…
