Two indicted in 2018 Legend Street murder

Nearly eight years to the day that a 22-year-old man was murdered defending himself against the robbery of his Spring Hill home, the Office of the United States Attorney – Middle District of Florida in Tampa announced the indictment of two individuals involved in that crime.

On Tuesday, Arthur Williams and Timothy Colon were indicted by a federal grand jury for using a fireman in the commission of a crime of violence. That crime was the murder of Alek Smith, who was beaten and shot by a group of individuals robbing his home on Legend Street because they believed he had drug proceeds and marijuana in the residence.

Colon organized the robbery, which took place around 1 a.m. on Oct. 16, 2018. It took a turn when Smith fought back to protect himself, his girlfriend and their infant child. Smith was beaten repeatedly and shot in his lower body by Colon. Smith died of blunt force trauma to his head and body as well as his gunshot wounds…
