Florida Student Almost Bit Tongue in Half After Staff Member Put Him in a ‘Chokehold’

The staff member was charged with aggravated child abuse

A staff member at a school in Florida was arrested on Wednesday after he allegedly put a student in a chokehold.

Brandon Tyrone Henry, a staff member at Wimauma Youth Academy, was charged with aggravated child abuse, WFLA reported.

Henry is accused of attacking a student as they were leaving a classroom on Jan. 17, according to a pretrial detention motion obtained by the station.

“As the victim was leaving that classroom, the defendant came up behind him and put him in a rear chokehold (right arm around the victim’s neck),” the document said. “The defendant held the victim in this position for approximately ten seconds, rendering the victim unconscious.”

The teenager fell, causing him to bite his tongue “almost in half,” according to the document. He also has cuts on his left eye, cheek, and mouth.

He was taken to Florida HCA South Shore Hospital, where he received multiple stitches on his tongue, Tampa Bay Times reported. There is a video of the incident, according to the motion.
