Large FL-Based Furniture Store Laying Off Dozens Due In Part To “Ongoing Economic Challenges”

Some retailers in the furniture industry have seen challenges in the last several months.

In October of 2024, I wrote about Z Gallerie filing for bankruptcy and selling off its assets. It has 7 Florida stores where customers got liquidations.

And Wayfair recently announced that it was laying off 13% of its workforce.

Unfortunately, there has been an announcement from a furniture company close to home for Floridians. A Florida-based furniture retailer will be laying off employees, citing economic conditions.

About CITY Furniture: According to the company’s website, it is a Florida-based retailer that strives to change the way people enjoy beautiful home furnishings at value prices. The company has over 23 stores across the state of Florida as well as an e-commerce site.

Plant City patrons give CITY furniture high marks, as it earns 4.6 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. Many praise the quality, selection, and “affordable” prices.

A reviewer named Kathleen wrote:

“Absolutely great experience buying some living room furniture (couch, chair, recliners). Our first time at City, and we couldn’t believe the fantastic selection (every style you can imagine!). Our salesman Michael was attentive but also gave us space to explore. Super nice and very helpful. We will definitely be back for future purchases.”
