Suspect in stolen car leads troopers on high-speed chase in Hillsborough, Pinellas counties: FHP

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A suspect in a stolen car led troopers on a pursuit on the night of Valentine’s Day, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Around 8:44 p.m., Eduardo Hernandez, 52, of Riverview, was traveling southbound on 49th Street North in Pinellas County in a 2012 Hyundai Elantra.

However, when the FHP ran his license, the tag was registered to a 2001 Chrysler Van stolen from Tampa, and was attached to the Hyundai by a tinted license plate cover.

When troopers turned on their emergency lights, Hernandez fled at a high rate of speed heading northbound on I-275 into Hillsborough County.

Troopers initiated a PIT maneuver on I-4 eastbound at 50th Street, where he was arrested.

Hernandez is facing charges of first-degree petit theft, fleeing to elude at a highspeed, and attaching a tag not assigned to the car.
