Newest South Tampa school to welcome first class of students next week

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Some students in South Tampa will have a brand new school to attend this year, as the county unveiled Kenneth E. Adum Pre K-8 Magent School on Wednesday.

Hillsborough County Public Schools said they are fully staffed and ready with 113 people at the school.

“It was a great thing to get to interview and hand pick your staff,” said Principal Scott Weaver. “My administrative team is incredible.”

Principal Weaver said this will help relieve some pressure at other nearby schools.

“South Tampa schools, for many years, they’ve been overcrowded,” said Weaver. “I think it was a great move on the district’s part to build a school and alleviate some of the overcrowding.”

He said the building cost about $70 million, and the district spent about $5 million more on technology, including 2,300 laptops and Yamaha music instruments.

The school has a fully stocked media center, several music suites, a great gym and fresh turf field.

“It’s a jaw-dropping experience and everybody’s just in awe when they see everything,” said Weaver. “They just can’t believe that this is a Hillsborough County Public School.”
