Spotty inland rain today, less humid air on the way

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – It is another steamy day with highs reaching the low 90s and heat index values 105-109. A light breeze off the Gulf of Mexico keeps humidity high.

A few showers develop and quickly spread east of I-75 and over to the east coast by the evening.

It’s a similar pattern tomorrow with highs back in the low 90s and few passing showers.

The rain chance increases on Thursday as a rare August cold front arrives. This front ushers in some lower humidity for the end of the week.

Temperatures remain in the low 90s, but heat index values stay below 100 Friday and Saturday. The drier air also limits rain chances to just 10%.

The lower humidity doesn’t stick around long. We start to feel the mugginess return early next week, and that brings back scattered afternoon rain as well.

Tropical Storm Ernesto has formed in the Atlantic, and it should strengthen as it makes a turn to the north. The forecast track keeps it far off the U.S. coastline.
