Ernesto expected to become a major hurricane Friday

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Hurricane Ernesto is forecast to become a major hurricane on Friday as it nears Bermuda, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Hurricane Ernesto has sustained winds near 85 mph with higher gusts. Strengthening is expected within the next few days.

Ernesto’s rains are expected to reach Bermuda later today and could cause flash flooding Friday and throughout the weekend. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the island.

Bermuda is expected to get 4 to 8 inches of rainfall with a maximum up to 12 inches. Dangerous rip currents are likely along the east coast of the U.S. this weekend.
