Boaters stranded in Tampa Bay with no power saved in twilight rescue

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A group of boaters found themselves in need of a rescue just minutes before nightfall, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said Tuesday.

In a video shared on Facebook, HCSO said its Marine Enforcement Section rescued the boaters in Tampa Bay using its new SAFE Boat.

The boaters’ vessel was reportedly taking on water with no power and no way to get back to shore.

“We got you,” deputies told the boaters as they approached.

The responding deputies estimated that the boat took on about a foot of water before the rescue.

“I can’t say enough good things about our Marine Enforcement Section and their poise in this situation,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We were able to get the boaters safely ashore and work with SeaTow to get their vessel removed from our water.”

The boaters were safely rescued and brought back to the Williams Boat Ramp.
