Mom of twins found in hot car charged with manslaughter after jumping from Florida overpass

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A South Florida mother is facing manslaughter charges following the death of her 3-year-old twins who were found unresponsive inside a car on I-95, NBC affiliate WTVJ reports .

Initially charged with child neglect, Shirlene Alcime, 42, was charged with two counts of aggravated manslaughter and entered a not guilty plea during a court hearing on Friday.

On Feb. 2, twins Milendhet and Milendhere G. Napoleon-Cadet were found unresponsive and foaming at the mouths inside a car on northbound I-95 near Florida’s Turnpike extension, WTVJ said.

Alcime reportedly jumped off the overpass when first responders arrived at the scene.

“The Medical Examiner has determined that the cause of death for the victims in this case is homicide, as such, the filing of formal murder charges is pending with the Miami Dade State Attorneys Office,” Miami-Dade County Police said in early August.

Currently, Alcime is accused of causing their deaths by failing to provide care, WTVJ reports.
