The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had one of the worst running back rooms in football last season, but fast forward to 2024, and under Liam Coen, the run game is a strength of the offense.
In their last five games, the rushing attack has surpassed 100 yards, with Rachaad White , Bucky Irving, and Sean Tucker all playing their role in Coen’s offense.
What is unique about the Buccaneers’ run game is that on one drive, White might take the majority of carries; on the following drive, it might be Irving or Tucker.
All three work together, and head coach Todd Bowles calls it a three-headed monster, but what is it really like to share the workload with players who could take your job?
“I’m pretty used to it because I came from a backfield in college where we had three good backs,” Irving said . “You all got to have a relationship and go out there and want to play for one another. We all have that good relationship, whenever our number is called, we know we got to go out there and compete for one another, and whoever [is] rolling, we going to let him stand there and do his thing. It’s always good to have three good backs in the room.”
