Mexican National Sentenced to 15 Months for Illegal Reentry After Felony Conviction in Hillsborough County

Herman Vazquez-Padilla, a Mexican national, has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for the federal offense of illegal reentry into the United States after an earlier conviction of an aggravated felony. U.S. District Judge Richard A. Lazzara handed down the sentence following Vazquez-Padilla’s guilty verdict on December 23, 2024, the U.S. Attorney’s Office reported.

Details from the court documents reveal that Vazquez-Padilla was convicted on September 19, 2012 for conspiracy to transport more than one hundred illegal aliens. Following an order of removal issued on June 7, 2021, and his subsequent deportation on November 10 of that year, Vazquez-Padilla returned to the U.S. without the requisite permission of the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security, a clear violation of the legal process stipulated for reentry after removal.

On August 28, 2024, officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) apprehended Vazquez-Padilla in Hillsborough County, Florida.
