Quick action by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Marine Section and a 911 dispatcher led to the rescue of five people from a sinking boat near Tampa Bay’s Spoil Island earlier this month. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call about the overturned vessel, prompting an immediate search and rescue operation.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, a deputy found the boat and used a throw rope to rescue one man still clinging to the vessel, while the other four passengers were helped by nearby civilian boats.
